We, Old Friends Japan, are an organization that accepts, cares for, connects and makes the most of Thoroughbreds that have retired from active service. The horses of Old Friends spend their days in the foothills of the three Hiruzen mountains, in the beautiful nature of the four seasons, in a relaxed and energetic way. We are working to create a way for them to utilise their own abilities and live together with people.

What is Old Friends Equine?
It is the only facility for retired thoroughbreds located in Kentucky, USA. It was founded in 2003 by journalist Michael Browen after the retirement of the famous American stallion Ferdinand, who was missing while living as a stallion in Japan, and is operated as a farm to take in a variety of retired horses, mainly stallions who have retired with good performances, and give them a life of their own. In 2015, it was awarded the Eclipse Award Special Prize for its outstanding contribution to the Thoroughbred industry. It now houses more than 200 horses and is one of the leading tourist facilities in Kentucky, with approximately 20,000 visitors a year.

Old Friends Japan is an organization that creates opportunities for racehorses to continue to play an active role after they have retired. We re-train retired race car models to suit the needs of the sport and tourism industry. In the rich nature at the foot of the three Hiruzen mountains, the horses live in a relaxed and energetic environment.
